Bristol to Unveil Electric Supercar

British luxury carmaker will reveal an all-new hybrid electric supercar this summer.

We first caught wind of historic British carmaker Bristol Cars electric supercar project back in 2011. At the time it was predicted the Bristol supercar could arrive in 2013, and according to a new report by Autocar that prediction will soon be proved accurate. Renowned for its string of "gentleman's GTs" and 1,000hp 8.0-liter twin-turbo V10-powered Fighter T supercar, Bristol is putting the finishing touches to its all-new hybrid supercar that could be ready for a public reveal at July's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The supercar will use a range-extended powertrain sending permanent electric drive to all four wheels, with a Wankel rotary gasoline engine powering a generator to feed the lithium ion batteries. Bristol Cars is now owned by holding company Kamkorp Group that also owns Frazer-Nash Research, the company responsible for devising the supercar's powerplant and that also owns the rights to the Wankel engine. Frazer-Nash confirmed the styling will be the work of an outside consultant, and if it's anything like its 2009 Namir Hyrbid Concept (pictured), built in co-operation with the Italian styling hose Italdesign Giugiaro, then the final shape could be spectacular.

The Namir's hybrid powertrain combined an 813cc Wankel engine and four electric motors, with peak output rated at 400 horsepower and 0-60mph at 3.5 seconds. Top speed was said to be 186mph, but with the new supercar that should rise to over 200 mph. There's no indication of when the Bristol will be put into production, but Fraser-Nash has every intention of building it.
