McLaren reveals the digital dash of the P1, the hotly anticipated sucessor to the iconic F1.
We knew this was coming sooner or later. McLaren Automotive has just confirmed today that the production version of its P1 hypercar will have its official premiere at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next month. Ever since it previewed last September in concept form at the Paris Motor Show, it's become clear that McLaren intends to build a game changer in terms of being the best handling hypercar ever. Power is set to come from the MP4-12C's twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 cranked up to 800 horsepower.
In addition, a KERS system similar to what's used in F1 cars will be on hand to give the car an extra boost of horsepower. Due to its carbon-fiber passenger tub and other lightweight construction materials, the P1 will only tip the scales at around 2,900 lbs.
This new McLaren video, however, confirms that the P1 will adopt a race-inspired digital dash readout, meaning it'll be a fully-focused track car. When a driver selects Race mode, the large rear wing extends and its pitch alters to the ideal aerodynamic position. Inside, the digital screen, when in Race mode, has a bank of lights that act as a shift indicator, just like in an F1 car. We can't wait to discover more about this sensational car and in just a few short weeks we will do.
