Range Rover Sport Spied in Snow

Wearing minimal camouflage, the wider body and more sloping roofline of the new Range Rover Sport has come into focus.

A couple of months after spying the new Range Rover Sport in the US, another prototype has been spied wearing slightly less camo undergoing cold weather testing in the vicinity of the Arctic Circle. Land Rover's model overhaul began with the new Range Rover they released last fall, and next in line is the Sport variant. Replacements for the Discovery and Defender are also on their way. The heavier Discovery platform on which the current SUV is based has been ditched for the larger Range Rover's new aluminum architecture, which will help it to lose a few pounds.

The Sport can be differentiated from the standard Range Rover by its wider, lower stance and more sloping roof line. Gasoline and diesel engines will be borrowed from sister-company Jaguar, with the XKR's 510-horsepower supercharged V8 to feature in the top-of-the-line model. A public debut of the new Range Rover Sport is expected in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
