Porsche Unleashes New 911 RSR

Zuffenhausen gets ready to return to Le Mans in its 50th year with this latest race-spec Elfen.
Audi may be the dominant force at Le Mans these days, but no manufacturer has accrued as many checkered flags at the famous French endurance race than Porsche. Now the German company is preparing its return to Le Mans, revealing the car with which it will do so. The new 911 RSR is based on the latest 991-generation model and replaces the older 911 GT3 RSR. It’s longer, lighter, better balanced and more versatile to take on the most iconic 24-hour race in the world as well as the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Porsche has fitted the new 911 RSR with a new suspension and gearbox, with fenders, hoods, doors, underbody, wing, dashboard and center console all made from carbon fiber. Many body panels are made to pop out easily for a quick change in the pit lane. The battery is also lighter and the windows are made of plastic. All this helps improve the RSR’s weight balance and center of gravity. Motivation is provided by a 4.0-liter flat-six with 460 horsepower driving the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. Two cars – wearing the numbers 91 and 92 – will contest Silverstone and Spa before tackling Le Mans in June.
