47 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts Spend 16 Days Driving the Alps

One hundred years after the legendary Alpine Trial, dozens of vintage Rolls-Royce Ghosts embarked on a 1,800-mile odyssey through the Alps.
The 1913 Alpine Trial, or “Alpenfahrt,” was the most demanding test of a car’s engineering in the early days of motoring. So when four Silver Ghosts dominated the event, Rolls-Royce was declared the “Best Car in the World.” The 2013 Centenary Alpine Trial marks that historical occasion with 47 Silver Ghosts spending 16 days traversing more than 1,800 miles of Alpine roads accompanied by the Rolls-Royce “Works Team.”

Having crisscrossed through five countries, the intrepid owners, including British Royalty, Lords, Ladies and Ambassadors, completed the adventure in Vienna, Austria, where the original competitors finished 100 years before them. “The Centenary Alpine Trial has clearly embraced the Spirit of Adventure that is synonymous with Rolls-Royce, and I applaud the participants for their resolve and determination,” said Torsten Muller-Otvos, CEO.
