The Tonale is Alfa Romeo’s entry into the sub-compact luxury crossover segment, joining an increasingly crowded field of vehicles. It’s expected to go into production sometime in 2020, and while all we’ve seen so far is a concept, the final version is expected to be close to the prototype. The Tonale should slot in below the Stelvio crossover in both price and size.
The Tonale is expected to be available with an eAWD system that uses an electric motor to deliver power to the rear wheels, which is the same system used on the Jeep Renegade. Combined with a 1.3-liter gas engine, the whole package delivers 240 horsepower. The Tonale will also share much of its platform with the Renegade, as both brands are owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
We don’t know exactly which features will make their way into production when things get started, but the concept sported a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.3-inch center touchscreen.
When it goes on sale, the Tonale will compete with the Audi Q3, BMW X1/X2, and Lexus UX. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
