With the same 285-horsepower PHEV powertrain and AWD, the Alfa Romeo Tonale's 0-60 sprint should take just under six seconds regardless of the trim, according to the manufacturer. Top speed is limited to 125 mph. With a ground clearance of a mere 5.6 inches, the AWD system is made for optimum traction on slippery roads, not for any off-road antics. Trailering is in the cards in most circumstances, but you'll predictably not be able to tow big rigs, as the maximum towing capacity is 2,000 pounds.

The engine in the Alfa Romeo Tonale is the same in each of the three trims - a 1.3L turbocharged inline four-cylinder with 180 hp coupled to an electric motor with 90 kW (121 hp). Together, the two power units generate a maximum of 285 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The 15.5-kWh battery pack weighs 276 pounds. A six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is the only drivetrain option for the time being, despite initial rumors suggesting a 2.0L turbocharged gas engine would be available as well, as it is in the Dodge Hornet.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale's gas mileage and mpg figures benefit greatly from the PHEV setup and an overall figure of 75 MPGe is claimed. The all-electric range is estimated to be between 30 and 35 miles, and the combined gas-and-electric range comes to 320 miles. It could have been more had it not been for the Tonale's tiny fuel capacity of just 11.2 gallons. No official EPA figures were available at the time of writing, and the figures we mention here are the automaker's claims.
