When you think of a Tesla, you probably imagine the car in white or, at best, red. The brand's cars are very often specced in plain white and there aren't really any factory options beyond gray, black, blue, and red. When recharging at a Supercharger station, it can be difficult to spot your Model S or other Tesla in a sea of simple colors. At least that's what Tesla's Chinese customer service department says. To that end, Tesla is now offering vehicle wraps for new and existing customers to try out. With vinyl available in practically limitless shades, hues, and finishes, this seems like a great idea.

The new service is being launched in China exclusively, with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Suzhou being the first cities to offer this service at Tesla delivery centers. More cities are promised to come online around the middle of this month, and if the program is successful, it will likely pave the way for other markets to try something similar.

The promotional images accompanying this announcement depict a Tesla Model X wrapped in a bright yellow that certainly commands your attention from miles away. With a manufacturer offering a service like this instead of relying on a third party, the cost of such a cosmetic change should be fairly reasonable.

However, there could be more at play here. Tesla has come under fire for sub-par paint finishing on many units, even shortly after the cars are delivered. One Model 3 owner even sued Tesla for this, and other Tesla owners have experienced bigger issues too. We truly hope that Tesla's decision to offer a car-wrapping service is not the company's idea of a quick fix for poor paint finishing. If it's not, would you be interested in this kind of service? Customizing your car from the moment you order it in any color you want could be pretty cool.
