The 2023 Audi A5 Sportback's performance specs are decent but not class leading. The standard setup sends 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels in the Audi A5 Sportback for a 0-60 mph sprint time of 6.4 seconds. This should be sufficient for most drivers, but those who want a bit more kick off the line will have to upgrade to the stronger four-pot option. This bestows the Sportback with 261 hp and 273 lb-ft, cutting the sprint time down to 5.4 seconds. In either case, the top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph.

Although not slow, the Audi isn't as quick as the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. The base 430i needs 5.8 seconds for the benchmark sprint, over half a second quicker than the A5 40 TFSI. Unlike the all-wheel-drive Audi, the BMW is available with rear-wheel drive as standard.

In every version of the Audi A5 Sportback, a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine supplies power to the quattro all-wheel drivetrain. The base 40 TFSI develops 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, while the higher-tuned 45 TFSI sends out 261 hp and 273 lb-ft. Both configurations are paired with a 12-volt mild-hybrid system that helps improve launch speeds. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission manages the gears and shifts between them almost imperceptibly.

The entire setup is extremely refined, and power delivery remains steady as the vehicle accelerates. This makes driving around town effortless, while very few cars should be nudging you out of the way on the highway.

2023 A5 Sportback Gas Mileage

The gas mileage achieved by the Audi A5 Sportback is good for a premium vehicle. In base guise, the Audi returns 24/33/28 mpg across the city/highway/combined cycles, according to the EPA, which is almost identical to the base 430i Gran Coupe's 25/34/28 mpg. With xDrive AWD, however, the 430i uses more gas at 23/33/27 mpg.
