2023 e-tron S Safety

There is no official safety review for the Audi e-tron S from the NHTSA. However, the regular derivative of the luxury SUV was put through its paces and received a five-star overall rating from the authority. The IIHS is also impressed by the e-tron. The 2023 model received the best available score of Good across most categories and the 2022 model was even awarded the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ award. While the sportier e-tron S hasn't been tested by either group, these ratings give a strong indication as to how it would perform in a collision.

2023 e-tron S Key Safety Features

The 2023 Audi e-tron S is filled to the brim with the latest safety features. There are eight airbags; dual front, curtain (front and rear), side-impact, and front knee airbags. On the driver-assist front, both the Premium Plus and Prestige deliver. The standard 360-degree top-view camera system should prevent any undesirable parking lot incidents and the traffic-sign recognition system should keep you on the right side of the law.

In terms of collision-mitigation tech, buyers will enjoy Audi pre-sense front and pre-sense basic and rear. If the e-tron S senses an impending accident, the sunroof and windows will close automatically, and the front safety belts will tighten in anticipation of the impact. There's also a rear cross-traffic alert function and a vehicle exit warning system, along with active lane assist, adaptive cruise control with automatic emergency braking, and Isofix child-seat mountings.

Other life-saving features include the Emergency Assist technology. Rather cleverly, the e-tron S can detect an incapacitated driver and slowly bring itself to a stop. Of course, the usual suspects such as parking sensors (front and rear) are also present. Opting for the pricier Prestige does net you intersection assistance.

2023 e-tron S Reliability

At the time of writing, no recalls have been issued for the 2023 e-tron S SUV. There were just two for the 2022 model; as per the NHTSA, nearly 9,000 examples may suffer from either of two issues with the rearview camera, both causing it not to display an image on the infotainment screen when the vehicle is in Reverse. It must be said this problem isn't exclusive to the e-tron S, with several other Audi vehicles suffering from the same problem.

While the e-tron S derivative has not been rated by J.D. Power, the regular model has received mixed reviews. In terms of the driving experience, the 2022 e-tron received a strong score of 83/100. It doesn't do quite as well in the important quality and reliability category, receiving just 62/100. Overall, the e-tron scores just 71/100, placing it behind similarly priced SUVs.

Hopefully, these are just hiccups as Audis are generally well-built vehicles. If something does go wrong, buyers will be pleased to know both the Premium Plus and Prestige trims are offered with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty, which also includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.
