2022 Audi Q5 Hybrid Review: Efficiently Potent

The Audi Q5 Hybrid pairs an efficient powertrain with one of Audi's top-selling models. This plug-in hybrid produces 362 horsepower from a combination of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, enabling a 0 to 60 mph sprint of just five seconds - despite the added weight of the battery pack - and boasting the ability to travel for 23 miles on electric power alone. The combined gas-only economy figure stands at 26 mpg. It's a fantastic mix of performance and efficiency, slotting between the mild-hybrid base Q5 and the powerful SQ5, models which we evaluate in separate reviews. Beyond its powertrain, the usual Q5 attributes apply such as an upscale cabin, an utterly unfussed and smooth driving experience, and an intuitive infotainment system. The Q5 Hybrid's key rival, the BMW X3 xDrive30e, is absent for the 2022 model year which is a sharper handler but isn't as powerful as the Audi. For the most part, the Audi Q5 Hybrid is a thoroughly well-sorted premium SUV.

Verdict: Is the 2022 Audi Q5 Hybrid A Good SUV?

In our review of the Audi Q5 Hybrid, this clever SUV proved itself to be nearly as quick as the high-performance SQ5, yet far more efficient. It's yet another showcase of a modern hybrid vehicle offering the best of both worlds, where we no longer have to choose between performance and efficiency. When you aren't embarrassing some sports cars, the Q5 Hybrid settles down and is one of the smoothest and most refined premium SUVs around. The cabin is spacious and there are enough features to keep everyone happy, it has an excellent safety rating, and three trim levels offer enough choice.

However, The Q5 isn't the most exciting SUV to drive, and its reliability rating could be better. Another model to consider is the base Q5 mild-hybrid, which is rapid and efficient while coming in at a much more appealing price. On the other hand, the SQ5 is better to drive and barely costs more. With this in mind, could it be that the Q5 PHEV is trying to fill too small of a gap within the Q5 range? Maybe. But that doesn't take away from the fact that this is another well-rounded effort from Audi.

What's the Price of the 2022 Audi Q5 Hybrid?

The most affordable Audi Q5 PHEV in the US is the Premium at an MSRP of $52,900. It's followed by the mid-range Premium Plus which will cost $57,000 and the fully-loaded Prestige at $62,350. These prices exclude Audi's destination charge of $1,095. The price of the Audi Q5 hybrid will exceed $65,000, including destination, when loaded up with options.
