2019 Q7 Interior

The Q7's nondescript, almost generic, exterior hides a stunning secret; a luxurious cocoon of premium materials and tech features that is about as good as you're going to get in this price range - even higher up the price ladder. The main focus of the interior is long-distance comfort, and Audi has spent their time very effectively making the inside of the Q7 match its class-leading ride comfort. A well-thought-out and cleanly designed interior layout blends functionality and beautiful design, and even in the base model, the tech features and infotainment system impresses. Top tech is reserved for the higher-priced trim levels; Audi's brilliant Virtual Cockpit display, for instance, only make an appearance on the mid-level Premium Plus.

Seating and Interior Space

The Q7 is a true seven-seater and gets three rows of seat space. As with other cars in the midsize SUV class, the third row of seats can be folded flat (an electrically powered procedure in the Q7 for added convenience) to open up some extra cargo space. The middle row can also fold flat, but is a bit more labor-intensive to effect. The Q7's interior dimensions are akin to those found in the Acura MDX and even in the Volvo XC90. Headroom starts at 39.9-inches for front passengers and declines to 38.8-inches for the middle row, and 35.9-inches for the third. The Q7 offers slightly more legroom for the front passengers in comparison to main competitors, but significantly less for third-row passengers. All seats across the range are covered in high-quality leather and are heated and power-adjustable in the front. The Q7's seats offer good support and excellent comfort; perfect for long-distance cruising.

Interior Colors and Materials

Interior materials on the Q7 have a tangibly superior quality that other automakers can't beat. Even on the base 2.0T model, the Diamond Silver and Terra Brown Walnut wood inserts look and feel like they belong in something with a higher price tag. The base trim gets the optional Diamond Silver and Gray Oak inserts. Standard on the 3.0T is a high-gloss and Gray Oak wood insert, but you can opt for a high-gloss Black and Brown Walnut look too. The top-spec Prestige trim gets an Aluminium and natural Sycamore finish, which truly epitomizes class and luxury. You also get to choose from six different colors of leather ranging from the classic Black or Gray, all the way to exotics like Nougat Brown, Murillo Brown or Pistachio Beige.

2019 Q7 Trunk and Cargo Space

Rear cargo space is limited by the third-row seats, as is the case in most seven-seaters. It measures 14.2 cubic feet which - to put it in context - is about as big as the A4's trunk. The power liftgate opens up to a gaping rear aperture with a low liftover, which means that you won't have any trouble packing and unpacking large and unwieldy items, particularly with air suspension equipped that can lower the Q7 for loading purposes. The third row is easily flattened thanks to a powered switch, and more than doubles the usable cargo space to 35.7 cubic feet. In this layout, you'll be able to fit enough luggage for a week-long vacation; it is equally suitable for school bags and groceries. Getting the second row to fold flat is a bit more old-school as it requires actual physical input. Once the seats are down though, cargo space is once again nearly doubled with 69.9 cubic feet available.

Internal storage sadly falls behind that of rivals. The cupholders present throughout the cabin err on the small side, as do the center console storage options. The Glovebox is mediocre, likewise the four door pockets. Front occupants will want more space than what the Q7 provides.

2019 Q7 Infotainment and Features

Features

The features list, including all the optional extras on the Q7, is rather extensive, and even on the baby 2.0T, Audi hasn't skimped on tech in the least. For 2019, Audi has made satellite navigation standard across the range. It is also fitted with leather and wood covered upholstery, Bluetooth, power-adjustable and heated front seats, a massive powered sunroof, as well as front and rear collision warning tech. The Premium Plus trim takes things to the next level: standard LED headlights and interior lights, an improved sound system, and power-adjustable steering are some of the enhancements on this trim. The pinnacle of Q7 luxury can be found in the Prestige spec car; bigger wheels, doors that automatically open and close, seats that massage the stresses of being a CEO right out the window, and an Alcantara headliner that borders on Bentley-level opulence. Audi's Pre Sense Plus collision avoidance systems reduce the stress of driving, while the Virtual Cockpit display on higher trims gives the Q7 a futuristic edge over the competition.

Infotainment

The infotainment system found in the 2019 Q7 is a joy to use. Audi Calls it MMI, and it certainly does have that classic German-engineered feeling to it: precise, detailed and smooth-functioning. The centrally mounted cog controls the menu navigation, and a large trackpad placed in front of it can recognize your handwriting which helps with navigation inputs and phone calls. The MMI display screen is 8.3-inches in size across the range and uses Audi's smartphone interface with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto integration. Audi's 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit system is stunningly crisp and intuitive to use but is only available on the Premium Plus and Prestige trim cars.

The base model features a ten-speaker Audi sound-system with a single CD player and MP3 playback capability. From the mid-range Premium Plus trim, this is upgraded to a nineteen-speaker Bose 3D surround-sound system with an amplifier and advanced staging technology.
