2021 Audi Q7 Review: Suave and Serene Family SUV

by Aiden Eksteen

In one of the most popular vehicle classifications in the USA right now, the suave 2021 Audi Q7 distinguishes itself by zeroing in on contemporary design, modern creature comforts, and the comprehensive inclusion of safety features. Under the hood of the luxury midsize SUV is either a 2.0-liter turbo-four or 3.0-liter turbo 6-cylinder engine offering outputs of 248 or 335 horsepower, respectively. Power is ceded through an 8-speed automatic transmission to the Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system. The Q7 SUV's suave exterior styling is met with a modern and spacious interior, though most will struggle to find comfort in the optional third-row seats. There are plenty of creature comforts and conveniences to enjoy, however, as well as oodles of advanced driver-assistance systems and safety features. Coming in at around the 2021 Audi Q7 SUV's price of $54,950 are the likes of the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class.

2021 Audi Q7 Changes: What’s The Difference vs The 2020 Audi Q7?

The Audi Q7 SUV saw a midlife redesign for 2020, so no significant updates, other than some package shuffling, affect the 2021 model. The Premium trim now gets standard Audi side assist, pre-sense rear and pre-sense front. The Convenience Package available for Premium models now includes a top-view camera system and a heated steering wheel. The new Executive Package available on the Premium Plus trim combines the driver-assistance package with the warm and cold weather packages. On Prestige vehicles with the 3.0-liter engine, there are now standard heated rear seats, while the door armrests and center console trim now feature leather upholstery.

Verdict: Is the 2021 Audi Q7 A Good SUV?

The 2021 Audi Q7 forms part of the second-generation Q7 denomination, which has been exceedingly popular within the luxury midsize SUV classification since its debut in 2017. This can be attributed to the Q7 SUV's modern and sophisticated demeanor, polished performance, and luxurious cabin that's all presented at a relatively decent price. For some, the Q7's aesthetic may be a little too withdrawn, or at least not as commanding as something like the BMW X5, but it's still undeniably suave in its own Audi-esque way. As a luxury 4-door SUV, the Q7 delivers only where it needs to, in competency and comfort. It's otherwise not the most exciting or competitive car to drive, which isn't really an issue if it's just luxury you're looking for. Balanced performance and a serene ride quality are complimented by an extensive selection of avant garde creature comforts, conveniences, and safety features. These qualities are all complimented by a consummate safety rating from the IIHS's review of the 2021 Audi Q7, as well as high reliability expectations. After its major refresh for the 2020 model year, the 2021 Audi Q7 has become an even better option within the trending classification.

What Audi Q7 Model Should I Buy?

When it comes to striking an optimal balance between specifications and price, the mid-spec Premium Plus is the trim to go for. We'd then go ahead and option the V6 engine in for the slight but tangible improvement in performance it offers over the 4-cylinder. The fact this comes at very little cost to fuel-efficiency figures is just a bonus. It comes standard with a good selection of both comfort and safety features over the entry-spec Premium trim, including a heated steering wheel, 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound audio system, wireless phone charging, and a top-view camera system with a virtual 360-degree view.
