After a one-year hiatus from the scene, the Audi R8 Spyder is back in the showroom and with a new face to show for it. New styling and a little extra power are welcome changes, but the basics are the same as they’ve always been - the same as we’ve always loved. Audi’s virtual cockpit takes pride of place behind the D-shaped steering wheel with a red engine start/stop button, and a soft-top roof overhead opens up to let nature in. But while you’re cosseted in leather-upholstered sports seats with power adjustment, the real magic happens behind your head, where a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 wails to high heavens while delivering 562 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, sent to all four corners by means of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The new-for-2020 R8 V10 performance Spyder ups the ante further, with 602 hp and 413 lb-ft, dropping the 0-60 mph time by two-tenths of a second, equipping Audi ceramic brakes housed within 20-inch alloy wheels, a fixed-damper sports suspension, and adding a splash of carbon fiber to the inside and outside to give the R8 Spyder a truly menacing appearance.
