The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comprises two trim levels, one of which is more reserved, and the other more sport-focused. The 228i and the M235i share a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but the M235i produces more power thanks to some sport-enhanced treatment from BMW. An eight-speed automatic transmission is shared between the two models, along with an xDrive all-wheel-drive system that newly favors the front wheels.
Standard features on the 228i are inclusive of 17-inch wheels and full-LED lighting on the outside. The inside sees Sensatec leatherette upholstery, a multifunction leather-clad steering wheel, ten-way power-adjustable front seats with memory, dual-zone climate control and an 8.8-inch touchscreen with iDrive 6.0 that comes with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth streaming, and a navigation system. The M235i adds an M Sport steering wheel, keyless entry and ambient lighting to its standard features list. Both models share the same safety features under the Active Driving Assistant moniker that adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, pedestrian monitoring with braking, rear cross-traffic alert and forward-collision warning with mitigation.
