There are only two specification differences between the RWD 530i and 540i models. The 540i has the 335-hp six-cylinder engine and 19-inch V-spoke alloy wheels; other than these, the two vehicles are essentially identical. The significantly more powerful 540i does have a sizeable performance advantage, getting to 60 mph exactly one second faster at 4.9 seconds. It is also 174 lbs heavier than the 530i but, despite its bigger engine and higher weight, its EPA figures are only slightly worse than the 530i's 25/33/28 mpg EPA figures, thanks to its 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
