2019 7 Series Interior

The interior of the 7 Series oozes class and luxury with a range of premium wood grain and carbon fiber trims, as well as high-quality leather upholstery to choose from. The dashboard has a very business-like approach with many straight lines and angles but maintains an aura of sophistication. The controls are all well-placed and easy to reach and every button and knob feels sturdy. The seats are comfortable and are available with many options including heating and ventilation. Being a top of the range sedan, BMW has added certain tricks like the Skylounge, which adds thousands of LED lights to the roof. It also has selectable ambient lighting colors, as well as the option to have different fragrances dispensed in the car at the touch of a button.

Seating and Interior Space

Five adults can sit in absolute comfort in the standard configuration, but with the executive-style rear seats, the number goes down to four. Heated ten-way power-adjustable seats are standard, with the option of 14-way seats with ventilation and massage function also available. For those who prefer to be driven around, there's also the option of the Rear Executive Lounge Seating Package, which adds reclining rear seats with extendable footrests.

The BMW has more than enough space for most people with front headroom of 39.9 inches, and front legroom of 41.4 inches. The space for rear passengers is one of the best in its class with 38.9 inches of headroom and a huge 44.4 inches of legroom by virtue of the standard long-wheelbase all US-spec models are sold in.

Interior Colors and Materials

BMW offers an extensive range of premium quality trims and upholstery for buyers to choose from and they add a unique touch to the already upmarket feel of the 7 Series. There are nine different wood finishes available such as Light Poplar Wood, Eucalyptus Smoke Brown, and Piano Black.

When it comes to upholstery, the 740i gets Dakota Leather in Canberra Beige, Mocha, and Cognac amongst other colors. Both the 750i and the M760i get Nappa Leather in similar colors but with the addition of Zagora Beige. BMW takes the upholstery materials to new heights with Merino Leather in a choice of exclusive colors such as Caramel/Black, Fiona Red/Black, Cashmere Beige/Black, and more, but at a price of $5,500.

2019 7 Series Trunk and Cargo Space

The 7 Series is a fabulous cruiser for even the longest of trips and has copious amounts of space, even for those who travel heavy. The trunk is one of the largest in its class with a capacity of 18.2 cubic feet as well as folding rear seats to further increase the space. The BMW is marginally bested by its perennial rival, the S-Class, which offers 18.7 cubic feet, but with a greater focus on interior luxury than trunk volume, the difference is negligible.

Not only does the 7 Series have tons of trunk space, but it's also equipped with many storage nooks for passengers to store their odds and ends. Front occupants get a glove box, front cup holders, a center console storage bin, as well as some shallow door pockets. Rear passengers have to make do with a storage tray, as well as cupholders in the rear armrest.

2019 7 Series Infotainment and Features

Features

Top of the range luxury sedans normally showcase the newest technology and features, which eventually trickle down to the other models in the range, and the 7 Series is no different. It has many features that are expected in a car of its stature such as four-zone climate control, a panoramic moonroof, automatic high beams, a power trunk, 14-way power-adjustable seats, and front and rear parking sensors as standard equipment

Where the 7 Series really shines is in the new technologies that come as optional extras like the ability to choose different scents, and having a tablet to control many of the car's functions like the seats, climate control, and more. The keyfob even has the ability to remotely control the car to get in and out of parking spaces. Further advancement is brought to the party in the form of an advanced driver head-up display and a range of driver assistance features. The Driver Assistance Plus Package equips tech like evasion aid and front cross-traffic alert, semi-autonomous driving functionality, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keep assist and side collision avoidance.

Infotainment

There's a state of the art infotainment unit in the 7 series, as well as some optional extras to make it even better. Some of the standard features include a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with two subwoofers, AM/FM radio, Sirius XM Satellite Radio with one year's subscription, USB input, and a rearview camera. These are all paired to a 10.2-inch touchscreen, onboard navigation, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity, and BMW's iDrive controller. One of the newer features is gesture control, which allows the passengers to make hand gestures in the air to control various infotainment functions. Also available is the option of having two rear entertainment screens and a seven-inch tablet to control the car's functions. A Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround system is also available for the sound aficionados out there.

While highly equipped, it's unfortunate that for such a high-end car, there's no Android Auto at all, while Apple CarPlay is only free for the first year, after which it becomes a paid annual subscription.
