While Mercedes may lead the charge when it comes to ultra-luxurious interiors, the BMW 7 Series is really giving it a run for its money. The materials used inside the cabin are the very best of the best, and there is a long list of standard comfort features, including heated and ventilated front seats, and a curved LED display programmed with the latest iDrive software, now at version 8.5. The driver also enjoys a digital instrument cluster set within the dashboard and an array of driver-assistance tech that includes an available semi-autonomous driving assistant. Sadly, while the interior space is generous, the trunk is less so.
The seats of the BMW 7 Series are truly sumptuous. They are multi-contour buckets with almost limitless adjustability, including lumbar support and heating. The upper trims get ventilation, too, and there is an available massage function. Rear passengers can also enjoy multifunction seats if you opt for the upgrade. These are perfect if you want to stretch out in the 43.3 inches of legroom, which is two inches more than front-row passengers get. Headroom is 39.8 inches across the cabin.

The seating upholstery is plush, with Veganza faux leather as standard. Merino leather is available for $1,850, though it is standard in the 750e and 760i. Color combinations for the former include Black/Burgundy, Mocha, Cognac, and Black. The Merino leather options are Amarone, Smoke White, Black/Atlas Grey, Mocha, Black, and Tartufo. Two more hues are added when you upgrade to the full Merino Leather for $7,300, these being Caramel/Atlas Grey and Taupe Grey/Night Blue.
In the 760i, the Smoke White and Black full Merina leather can be supplemented with Cashmere. No matter which colors you choose for the BMW 7 Series, you can pair them up with wood, metal, or carbon fiber trim. The latter will cost you $1,080, which is the same price as the Silver Ash Root Open Pore wood.
Cargo space is not where the BMW 7 Series shines, despite its impressive size. There is a mere 13.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats. But while trunk volume may be unimpressive, there are numerous places around the cabin to store your smaller items. These include a glove compartment and a spacious armrest cubby, and there are four cupholders in total - two up front and two in the back.

As you'd expect from a car priced around the six-figure mark, the BMW 7 Series comes outfitted with some of the most impressive technology available in the automotive industry. This includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, comfort keyless access, push-button start, remote engine start, power-adjustable front seats with memory, and quad-zone automatic climate control. You also get auto-dimming rearview and side mirrors, as well as three power outlets. The 760i upgrades to heated and ventilated front seats and adds a panoramic sky lounge LED roof. These features can be added to the 740i and 750e at additional cost. The standard safety suite comprises forward collision mitigation, blind-spot protection, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, an active park distance control with a backup assistant. Optional features include a surround-view camera, Parking Assistant Professional, and adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving.
Now running on the latest iDrive 8.5 software, the 14.9-inch central infotainment touchscreen display offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi capability, HD Radio, Bluetooth streaming, and over-the-air updates. The standard sound system comprises 18 speakers from Bower & Wilkins, but this can be upgraded to a 40-speaker surround sound setup. You can also install a 31-inch theater system in the back of the cabin, which is controlled via 5.5-inch touchscreens located on the rear-passenger doors.
The trunk only supplies 13.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
There are a total of five seating positions.
There are two cupholders in the front and another two in the rear fold-down armrest.
