The 8 Series Gran Coupe comes in three variations: 840i, 840i xDrive and M850i xDrive. The first is the only rear-wheel-drive model available and is powered by a straight-six that is turbocharged to produce 335 hp. An eight-speed automatic gearbox that does duty in the rest of the range is standard, with no manual option. The 840i features 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch infotainment display with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. 14-way power-adjustable front seats with heating complement the heated steering wheel and armrests, with four-zone climate control also included. The 840i xDrive is essentially the same, but features an all-wheel-drive system, while the top-spec M850i xDrive, which also sends power to all four wheels, is motivated by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 523 hp. This model gets unique styling elements and 20-inch wheels as standard. Besides a number of performance upgrades, it also has access to a bunch of carbon accessories not available on lesser models, including a carbon-fiber roof that deletes the panoramic sunroof that is standard across the range.
