Since the BMW X7 doesn't get the full-fat M treatment like the smaller SUVs in the stable, the XB7 steps up to the plate to fill the gap for those who, for some unknown reason, want a giant seven-seater that can dispatch the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.9 seconds. That's what the Alpina-fettled V8 will do with its 630 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is limited to 180 mph, but these aren't the only impressive numbers. Correctly equipped, the plush, powerful AWD behemoth will be able to tow a maximum of 7,500 lbs without getting flustered.
The engine employed to get the BMW Alpina XB7 rolling is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with mild-hybrid technology. Alpina tweaked the turbochargers and located the 48-volt starter-generator within the transmission to improve responsiveness even more. The result is blistering acceleration, thanks to outputs of 630 hp and 590 lb-ft, the latter being available from as low as 1,800 rpm through to 5,600 rpm. An eight-speed sport automatic transmission with Alpina shift buttons mounted onto the steering wheel is standard, and sends power to all four wheels via an electronically-variable limited-slip rear differential.

According to the EPA, the 2024 Alpina XB7's mpg figures come in at an understandably low 16/20/17 mpg. This is quite a lot less than the base X7 manages with its 3.0-liter inline-six, but not too far off the M60i xDrive's 16/21/18 mpg. A ponderous beast such as this, powered by a thunderous V8, is naturally thirsty.
With a 21.9-gallon fuel tank as standard, this gives drivers around 370 miles of range on a full tank.

You will need to fill up your BMW Alpina XB7 with the good stuff - it only takes Premium gasoline.
The XB7 doesn't gain any fuel economy benefits from the mild-hybrid assistance, and it's less efficient than the M60i variant of the X7, with which it shares a powertrain.
