There are two BMW i3 models, the conventional i3, and the performance-focused i3s, both of which are also available in extended-range versions of themselves. A single electric motor runs things in all models along with a single-speed direct-shift transmission; the motor is augmented with a 0.6-liter two-cylinder gasoline motor in the Range Extender models, which are also fitted with a 2.3-gallon gas tank. All models are propelled by the rear wheels, though the i3s models are specially equipped with a sport-tuned suspension.
While the standard i3 models ride on 19-inch turbine-spoke alloy wheels and the i3s models on 20-inch double-spoke bi-color alloy wheels. Every model is outfitted with the same selection of features; as standard, new i3 or i3s owners will find features such as full-LED exterior lighting, keyless entry, and push-button start functionality. A 6.5-inch high-resolution display with Apple CarPlay functionality heads infotainment while a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and dynamic cruise control cover driver-assists.
