2024 iX Exterior
The BMW iX exterior is its most divisive feature. The overall shape is attractive enough, but the front end wears the controversial, oversized kidney grilles. Paired with the slim LED headlights, it has a very pinched and aggressive facia. Darker paint jobs hide most of this, though.
The rear is more successful in terms of design. The slender taillights pay tribute to the iconic Z8 roadster and compliment the detailed bumper and narrow rear window. The xDrive50 is available with a bevy of personalization options. The base model comes standard with Shadowline trim, which adds darkened exterior trim, 20-inch double-spoke wheels, and a Panoramic Eclipsing moonroof.
The optional BMW i Signature Package adds blue coloring around the badges, while the Sport Package equips larger 21-inch wheels, black bumpers, and darkened taillights. A variety of wheels are available, ranging from 20 to 22 inches on the base model. The high-performance M60 is only available in its standard M guise and has 21-inch wheels as standard with racy-looking M Performance brake calipers.
There's plenty of function behind the iX's form; the iX features a self-healing Intelligence Panel kidney grille. Even the famous blue and white roundel has a purpose; it serves as a headlight washer.

Dimensions
In terms of size, the BMW iX dimensions aren't that far off the gas-powered X5. Length-wise, it measures 195 inches from front to rear. Plenty of occupant space is afforded by the 118.1-inch wheelbase, but we wouldn't want to drive the electric SUV down any narrow roads - at 87.8 inches wide (side mirrors included), it is vast. Despite the imposing shape and size, the electric SUV slips through the air with ease, thanks to a low drag coefficient of 0.25. In terms of height, the electric Bimmer stands 66.8 inches tall, which is higher than the e-tron S but nearly an inch lower than the X5.
As you would expect, the BMW iX has a fair bit of weight to lug about. Starting at 5,659 lbs and topping out at 5,769 lbs for the M60, the iX is lighter than the 6,074-lbs Audi e-tron S.

Exterior Colors
The automaker gives buyers plenty of choice in terms of BMW iX colors. A total of nine shades are available on both the xDrive50 and M60, with the only non-metallic option being Alpine White. The rest of the BMW iX exterior colors have a metallic finish and, save for two hues, they're all no-cost options.
We'd avoid the aforementioned white paint (it doesn't do much for the styling) and select a more sinister shade such as Black Sapphire, Oxide Grey, or Dark Graphite metallic. If you prefer a dash of color, Blue Ridge Mountain and Phytonic Blue metallic work rather well, too. The only crimson shade costs a pretty penny; like Storm Bay metallic, Aventurin Red metallic is priced at $1,950. Both of these colors, as well as Mineral White metallic, requires the fitment of the Sport package on the xDrive50 at an extra $2,500 over and above the color cost.
