As the latest edition to the 8 Series range, the high-performance M8 Gran Coupe could be the best of them all, replacing the regular coupe’s cramped rear seats with genuine space for two (and three at a squeeze). There’s been no drop in performance, with the 4.4-liter V8 cranking out an astonishing 600 horsepower (or 617 hp in the case of the Competition model). BMW’s M xDrive system, the active M differential, and a fast eight-speed automatic transmission help to manage the V8’s prodigious power.
In M8 form, the Gran Coupe’s stretched body is immediately visible. The dynamic lines are beefed up with 20-inch alloy wheels, Shadowline exterior trim, an M rear spoiler, twin exhaust pipes, Icon Adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight, and LED daytime running lights. The Competition model gets a bespoke wheel design, extended Shadowline trim, and unique badging. The luxurious cabin is finished in Merino leather and both front seats have 16-way power adjustment, heating and ventilation. Other highlights include a punchy 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, four-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, and a LED light carpet. The digital dashboard features the 12.3-inch display ahead of the driver as part of the brand’s Live Cockpit Professional, while the latest version of iDrive is accessed via a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The options list includes the M Driver’s Package with a raised top speed limiter, plus you can specify night vision with pedestrian protection and blind-spot monitoring.
