Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has conducted a crash test on the low-volume M8 Gran Coupe. However, as it's based on BMW's CLAR architecture, along with the other 8 Series models and other BMWs, such as the 3 Series, crash safety should be comparable. Modern CLAR-based BMWs typically achieve five-star crash safety.
NHTSA safety ratings are not available at this time.

There is no J.D. Power reliability review of the BMW M8 Gran Coupe, but last year's regular 8 Series Coupe managed a good result of 79 out of 100 overall and 81 for quality and reliability, and the M8 Gran Coupe should be comparable. There was a single recall in 2023 for windows potentially closing without the key fob present.
For peace of mind, the warranty of the BMW M8 Gran Coupe is comprehensive. It is covered by a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty, a 12-year unlimited-mileage rust and perforation warranty, and four years of unlimited roadside assistance. BMW's Ultimate Care is also standard and includes three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled services.
Despite not having been crash-tested, the safety of the BMW M8 Gran Coupe should be similar to other modern BMWs based on the CLAR platform - and some of these have achieved five-star crash ratings. The Gran Coupe also has a host of standard safety features and driver assists.
The M8 Gran Coupe has two front, two side, and two knee airbags for the front-seat passengers, as well as full-length curtain airbags for both rows, for a total of eight airbags.
