For the BMW M3 enthusiast that needs a bit more space for the family, the German marque has applied the full-fat M treatment to its mid-size SUV for the first time, and the result is the X3 M. The X3 M and the more powerful X3 M Competition are powered by a new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six delivering 473 horsepower (503 in the X3 M Competition) and 442 lb-ft of torque. xDrive all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission are standard, and being an M model, there’s plenty of choice in how comfort- or sport-oriented you want the X3 M to be.
Both models make their presence known with adaptive LED headlights, an aerodynamic kit, 20-inch alloy wheels (21s on the X3 M Competition), Shadowline exterior trim, an M rear spoiler, and M quad tailpipes. Both have 14-way power front seats, but the Competition model also gets bespoke M sports seats. Dual-zone climate control, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system, a 12.3-inch M-specific digital instrument display, a rearview camera, navigation, dynamic cruise control, and front/rear park distance control are standard. On the options list are a panoramic moonroof, active cruise control, and seat ventilation.
