The 2021 BMW X3 is a confidently styled SUV and is arguably more handsome than its German rivals, the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. The grille is modestly sized relative to the larger X7 which is another positive aspect that adds to the X3's broad appeal. In base form, the X3 features standard LED headlights with a cornering function, LED fog lights, 18-inch Y-spoke wheels, satin aluminum roof rails, power-folding heated side mirrors, and chrome exhaust tips. The M40i gets a set of 19-inch M Sport wheels, Shadowline exterior trim, an aerodynamic kit, and roof rails in high-gloss Shadowline. This more powerful model also has larger dual exhaust outlets.
This compact luxury crossover SUV shares similar dimensions to the Audi Q5 and measures 185.9 inches in length (186.1 inches for the M40i), has a body width of 74.4 inches (74.7 inches for the M40i), and is 66 inches tall. With a ton of luxury features on board, the X3 is no lightweight. The base model tips the scales at 3,931 pounds, while the M40i weighs a hefty 4,244 lbs. However, the spec sheet confirms that the hybrid xDrive30e is heavier still - it weighs 4,586 lbs.

The handsomely styled X3 is offered in a range of subdued colors that match its premium image. The SUV is offered in seven colors as standard: Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Jet Black, Glacier Silver Metallic, Dark Graphite Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, and Phytonic Blue Metallic. If we were buying, we'd go with the Dark Graphite Metallic. All the metallics will add $550 to the bill. The M40i differs somewhat; it can't be had in Jet Black or Mineral White but adds Carbon Black Metallic and Sunstone Metallic, with the latter going for a pricey $1,950.
