2024 X5 Safety
2024 models have yet to be crash tested, but we can assume ratings from 2023 will largely carry over. The IIHS gave the 2023 BMW X5 top safety ratings, with the agency's highest Good score for all the crash tests and a 2022 Top Safety Pick award when equipped with the Executive Package. The NHTSA scored it slightly lower, with four stars out of five overall, and for every crash test except the side crash, which received the full five stars.

2024 X5 Key Safety Features
The BMW X5 comes with six airbags and the obligatory safety features such as ABS, stability control, a backup camera, and tire-pressure monitoring. A fair number of driver assists are fitted as standard and include automatic LED headlights with auto high beams, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming interior and driver's side mirror, a reverse auto-tilt passenger-side side mirror, parking sensors front and rear, active blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. For $2,100, you can add the Driving Assistance Professional package with its pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a new hands-free highway assistant, and emergency-stop assist. For $800, you can add the Parking Assistance package with its dashcam, fully automated parking, parking sensors with automatic low-speed braking, and a surround-view camera.

2024 X5 Reliability
The BMW X5's reliability has improved a lot, and whereas it was subject to a worrying 12 recalls in 2021, this dropped to only one for a malfunctioning sunroof in 2022. So far, the 2023 model has still been recalled twice, for a missing driver's seat backrest bolt and for an improperly attached windshield that may leak water onto the electrical system. The 2023 X5 gets a good overall score of 80 out of 100 from J.D. Power, with 82 for quality and reliability, which should carry over, if not improve.
The limited warranty on the 2024 BMW X5 is valid for four years/50,000 miles, and the rust/perforation warranty is for 12 years/unlimited mileage. Complimentary servicing is included for three years/36,000 miles.
