2023 X6 M Safety

The X6 M has not yet been tested in the US for crashworthiness; neither the NHTSA nor IIHS have subjected the BMW X6 M to review. However, as it shares a lot with the X5, including its platform, it's good to know that the X5 was named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS for 2022, and received only Good crashworthiness scores. We see no reason that the X6 shouldn't be just as safe.

2023 X6 M Key Safety Features

The spec sheet on the BMW X6 M in terms of safety is an impressive one. There's a full suite of airbags, including dual-threshold driver and front passenger airbags, and the Active Protection system automatically prepares for an imminent impact by pretensioning the safety belts, closing all windows, and initiating post-crash braking. A head-up display and surround-view camera keep the driver aware of their surroundings, and you also get parking sensors with park assist. The Active Driving Assistant suite includes frontal collision warning, blind-spot assistance, and lane departure warning, while the Active Guard system adds automatic city collision mitigation and braking. On the options list are technologies like an extended traffic jam assistant, an evasion aid, and a lane control assistant.

2023 X6 M Reliability

The reliability of the BMW X6 M seems to have improved, as there are no recalls on record for the 2023 or 2022 models. The 2021 model is a different story, as it was recalled seven times for a sunroof malfunction, a faulty rearview camera image, potential loss of braking assistance, a loose steering column shaft, a misassembled 48V battery connection, non-confirming headlight lenses, and a tire inner layer that could fail.

BMW will cover the X6 M with a four-year/50,000-mile basic and drivetrain warranty. A 12-year corrosion warranty, three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary servicing, and four years of unlimited-mileage roadside assistance are included as well.
