The exterior of the BMW X6 still divides opinions, and not everybody is enamored with the high, slab-like rear of BMW's coupe-SUV rendition. It certainly looks aggressive with its fastback profile and even the base six-cylinder cars look more dynamic this year thanks to the standard fitment of the M Sport package with its partially blacked-out front bumper and big air intakes, but it's an acquired taste. The two trims now look virtually identical on the outside, with the same 20-inch M Star-spoke two-color alloy wheels, but the xDrive40i has black brake calipers, dual exhaust outlets, LED headlights, and front kidney grilles with chromed vertical slats, while the M60i has M Sport brakes with blue calipers, quad exhaust outlets, upgraded adaptive LED headlights with blue accents, and black M-badged kidney grilles. A power panoramic moonroof and power-folding side mirrors are standard on all X6s.
The BMW X6's dimensions are typical for this class, and it's similar in size to the GLE Coupe and Q8, with a length of 195 inches, a wheelbase of 117.1 inches, a width of 78.9 inches without the mirrors, and a height of 66.9 inches. Ground clearance is 8.5 inches.
The curb weight of the xDrive40i is 5,002 pounds with a 50.6/49.4% front/rear weight distribution, and that of the M60i is 5,300 lbs with a 51.2/48.8% front/rear weight distribution.

You can choose from eight exterior colors for the BMW X6 xDrive40i, of which only Alpine White is a no-cost paint. The seven $650 metallics are Mineral White, Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Manhattan Green, Skyscraper Grey, Brooklyn Grey, and Aventurin Red. The M60i has access to all these colors, but none of them cost extra on this trim and are included as no-cost options. It also gains access to an additional five trim-exclusive metallics: the no-cost Isle of Man Green, the $1,950 Dravit Grey, Tanzanite Blue II, and Ametrin (a deep maroon), and the $3,600 matte-finish Frozen Pure Grey.
We really like Manhattan Green Metallic, a beautiful olive-bronze hue. It costs $650 on the xDrive40i, and it's a no-cost color on the M60i.
The matte-finish Frozen Pure Grey Metallic is the most expensive paint option at $3,600. It is only available on the M60i trim.
All trims come with a standard sliding/tilting power panoramic moonroof.
The xDrive40i has dual chrome-tipped trapezoidal exhaust outlets and the M60i has quad chrome-tipped exhausts.
