The NHTSA has not performed a crash test on it, but we can get a good indication of the 2024 BMW X6's safety from the agency's evaluation of the 2023 X5, as these cars share the same basic structure and platform. The results were four-star ratings for all tests except the side crash, which received full marks. The IIHS also only tested the 2023 X5 but gave it better scores: Good for all the major criteria and a 2023 Top Safety Pick award when equipped with the upgraded headlights.

2024 X6 Key Safety Features

In terms of safety features, the BMW X6 has six airbags and the usual ABS, stability control, tire-pressure monitoring, and a backup camera. The standard suite of driver assists includes automatic LED headlights with auto high beams, rain-sensing wipers, parking sensors front and rear, front-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot intervention. However, you have to pay $2,100 extra for the Driving Assistance Professional package's lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, lane-change assist, emergency-stop assist, and a hands-free highway assistant. The $800 Parking Assistance package furthermore adds a dashcam, parking assistance with automatic low-speed braking, a surround-view camera, and fully automated parking.

The BMW X6's reliability is generally very good, with a decent overall JD Power score of 83 out of 100, and 83 for the quality and reliability assessment for the 2023 MY. At the time of writing, the last time the X6 was recalled was in 2022, and that was for one issue only - a sunroof malfunction.
