BMW X7 Performance Rating

2023 X7 Performance

Like most other BMW models, the X7 is an athletic performer, especially for its size, and is definitely the most dexterous in its class. The engine in the BMW X7 xDrive40i is a punchy 3.0L 375-hp turbocharged inline six that delivers silky smooth performance and gives the base BMW X7 a 0-60-mph sprint of 5.8 seconds before hiting a limited top speed of 130 mph. The towing capacity is a decent 7,500 pounds. The M60i is the model to go for if you're after true performance. This 523-hp 4.4L V8-powered machine will hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and can drive at speeds of up to 155 mph in the right configuration. Both trims are excellent highway cruisers, and the M60i will surprise many a sports car from the lights. AWD traction is excellent on slippery roads, but the limited ground clearance will rein in your off-road aspirations. Towing capacity is good and the maximum trailering limit is 7,500 pounds for both engines.

Engine and Transmission

The xDrive40i is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six engine producing 375 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an xDrive AWD system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup works perfectly well in the X7 and will get you up to speed in no time. City driving and highway bombing are both equally impressive. For those with a lust for power, the M60i offers it in spades. The twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine delivers 523 hp, 553 lb-ft of torque and pulls like a freight train. In both models, gear shifts are smooth and precise, and both offer excellent highway cruising abilities. For 2023, the eight-speed transmission now features a Sprint mode, where you can access maximum acceleration by pulling a steering paddle. Sprint mode selects the lowest gear possible for maximum acceleration and optimizes all vehicle systems for optimal sprinting ability instantly.
