2023 X7 Interior

BMW hasn't impressed us too much when it comes to interiors in recent years. Sure the quality is on point, and it's luxurious enough, but the interior design feels a bit basic, and most models share a very similar layout. The same goes for the interior of the BMW X7: this car offers a spacious cabin (at least in the front two rows), and all the luxury appointments you can think of are present, but the interior design doesn't grab our attention in quite the same way a flagship Mercedes does. The redesigned dashboard with its impressive new curved display incorporating the digital gauge cluster and infotainment touchscreen does add some flair though, and we do appreciate the standard panoramic moonroof, which makes the cabin airier inside.

Seating and Interior Space

The X7 offers seating for seven passengers in the default configuration with the second-row bench - in a 2-3-2 arrangement. Opting for the second-row captain's chairs results in a six-seater with a 2-2-2 seating configuration. Inside, both the base model and the X7 M60i get heated multi-contour power seats with two-way manual lateral adjustment and a seat position memory system for the driver and passenger. The interior space is generous in the first two rows. Front-seat and second-row legroom figures are 39.8 and 37.6 inches, respectively and there is a generous 41.9 and 39.9 inches of headroom, respectively, more than enough for those six-foot passengers. Unfortunately, those sitting in the third row will not have such a good time, as legroom is severely limited; there are only 33.3 inches available, along with a tight 36.6 inches of headroom.

Interior Colors and Materials

The interior might not be all that inspiring, but the materials and colors in the BMW X7's cabin are certainly a highlight. The X7 xDrive40i features standard Sensafin leatherette upholstery in Silverstone, Coffee, Cognac, or Black. Extended Merino leather costs $1,950 and is offered in Coffee and Tartufo. The Full Merino option costs $4,650 and includes Individual Ivory White/Atlas Grey, Black, and Tartufo. The M60i has Extended Merino leather by default in Ivory White, Coffee, Black, or Tartufo. On this trim, the Full Merino is available in the same colors as the base trim, but costs only $2,700 extra.

In terms of trim, BMW offers a substantial number of options on the xDrive40i. Fineline Open Pore Wood, Fineline Stripe Brown High Gloss Wood, Anthracite-Brown Poplar Matte Finish Wood, and Fineline Black Wood are no-cost options but for an additional $1,080, Individual Piano Black Finish, Individual Fine Wood Ash Grain, High Gloss Silver, and Silver Ash Root Open Pore Wood are available. The M60i gets all the same trim options plus one additional one: Carbon Fiber for $300. A leather-trimmed dashboard is a $900 option on both trims.

2023 X7 Trunk and Cargo Space

Three-row SUVs tend to struggle with cargo space, especially behind the last row of seats, and the trunk space in the BMW X7 is severely limited if you use all the seats. Behind the third row, the luggage compartment measures a mere 12.8 cubic feet, which is wildly inadequate for seven people. Drop the rear seats of a BMW X7 and you're greeted with a much more useful 48.6 cubic feet, which will easily swallow up baggage for five. If you're in need of even more space, flip down the second row and enjoy 90.4 cubic feet of space. Small items can be stored in the glove box, four door pockets, or center-armrest cubby. Each row also receives its own set of cupholders.

2023 X7 Infotainment and Features

Features

The biggest and most luxurious BMW of them all gets a slew of nice-to-haves and all the tech you'd expect from a car of this caliber. Each BMW X7 comes standard with a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a 12.3-inch Live Cockpit Professional digital cluster, a full-color head-up display, engine start/stop button, remote engine start, leatherette-upholstery, 14-way power multi-contour front seats, a power panoramic moonroof, automatic four-zone climate control, Comfort Access keyless entry, and a power tailgate. Driver-assistance features include front and rear parking sensors, frontal-collision warning, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and speed-limit info.

Infotainment

Two massive displays dominate the cabin of the BMW X7. Behind the steering wheel, you get a 12.3-inch gauge cluster, and in the center of the dash sits the crowning glory, a 14.9-inch touchscreen display. Both displays are behind one long, curved glass panel. The infotainment system also features Bluetooth streaming, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a string of USB charging ports, SiriusXM with 360L and a one-year Platinum Plan subscription, and an AM/FM stereo with RDS.

The xDrive40i has a 205-watt audio system with ten speakers. A 464-watt Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system with 16 speakers is on the options list but only as part of either the Premium or Executive packages. A 1,500-watt Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround-sound audio system with 20 speakers is available as a standalone option. The M60i gets the 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system as standard but still has access to the 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system.
