For 2021, Buick dropped the two top-spec models in the Encore line-up. Only the entry-level Encore and Preferred remain. Both are powered by a 1.4-liter turbo inline-four motor good for 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. FWD is the standard configuration, with AWD as an option on the top-end trim.
The base Encore is a no-option car. What you see is what you get, and you aren’t even allowed to choose what color you want - you get it in Summit White, and it comes with 99.9% of the features you get on the Preferred model. The standard fare includes manual air conditioning, keyless entry, cruise control, a 4.2-inch color display in the instrument cluster, leatherette trim, and the eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Preferred trim only adds a cargo cover and floor mats, but it allows for far more customization. You can choose from a small selection of metallic colors, one other upholstery option, and two optional safety packages.
