2024 Cadillac XT5 Review: The Final Lap
Cadillac has been teasing a new XT5 for some time now, and this year is set to be the last for the current generation of the compact SUV. As such, it retains its engine lineup, including a 310-horsepower V6 that gives the Sport trim its pep. This helps the stylish Caddy keep up with premium European rivals like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. It complements this with a roomy cabin that is more akin to that found in the larger Lexus RX. Sadly, the vehicle's age is really starting to show so late in its lifecycle, and it can no longer compete with more modern rivals. It hasn't received the stylish updates we've seen in the brand's other SUVs like the Lyriq, either. A relatively affordable price tag and good safety review may see the Cadillac XT5 get a little attention from buyers, but the majority are no doubt waiting for the next generation.

The price of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 is comparable to its premium rivals, with the base Luxury starting at $43,895. The Premium Luxury adds a significant chunk, bringing the cost up to $50,195, while the top-of-the-range Sport with the standard V6 engine sells for $56,795. These are the MSRP figures of the Cadillac XT5 and do not include tax, registration, or the $1,395 destination charge.
2024 Cadillac XT5 Handling and Driving Impressions
The 2024 XT5 is by no means a driver's car, though it has a decent amount of power on tap, especially in Sport guise. However, opting for the upper trim comes at the cost of the superb ride comfort you'll find in the Luxury and Premium Luxury. Meanwhile, the mediocre handling of these trims is replaced with far more engagement in the top-tier Sport, which comes equipped with larger wheels but also an adaptive suspension. Sadly, it will never manage the performance of something like an X3 or Q5, but it can be a moderately fun and practical city cruiser in the correct configuration This means passing up the cheaper and characterless four-cylinder engine, though. On the plus side, wind and road noise are managed quite well thanks to good build quality.
Verdict: Is The 2024 Cadillac XT5 A Good SUV?
There was a time when the XT5 was a top competitor in the segment, but that was quite a few years ago and the lack of significant updates recently has left it wanting on almost every front. The interior is spacious but littered with low-quality materials that detract from the overall passenger experience. The base engine is lackluster, to say the least, and the optional V6 costs a lot more and still fails to deliver a super-engaging drive. Lastly, the standard feature specifications are good, and the safety ratings superior, but there are far more modern systems on many cars available in the USA. As things currently stand, there just isn't enough reason to purchase the 2024 Cadillac XT5, but waiting for the next-generation model may be worth it.
What 2024 Cadillac XT5 Model Should I Buy?
If we were forced to buy an XT5, we'd opt for the Premium Luxury and stick in the V6 engine. The larger wheels on the Sport ruin the ride, and the handling isn't improved enough to make it worth the increased price. Meanwhile, the Premium gets nice-to-haves like plush leather upholstery, a sunroof, and a few more driver-assistance features. You can also stick with FWD if you don't live in a cold-weather state to save a few bucks at the gas station.
