2019 XT5 Interior

The interior of the XT5 is stylish and modern with upscale materials you'd expect from the luxury segment, but the controls could be a bit more practical. On the plus side, the cabin is spacious and the seats are eminently comfortable, even over long drives, although certain design choices do detract from the available hip room. The infotainment system is comprehensive but tricky to operate at times, and advanced safety features are reserved for the upper trim levels. Overall, the interior of the XT5 is one of its strongest features, so you can at least feel like you are in the lap of luxury even if other aspects of the SUV disappoint.

Seating and Interior Space

There are seating appointments for up to five passengers inside the cabin, with ample legroom both in the front and the rear. Headroom up front is also generous, with space for a driver and passenger of just about any height, though larger individuals may feel a bit cramped thanks to the large center armrest, which eats up hip and elbow room. Rear headroom is a little less impressive due to the slight slope to the roof, which is further exacerbated when the sunroof is added. Seat comfort is more than adequate too, with enough cushioning to keep you comfortable through an entire day of sustained driving. Forward visibility is good and finding a good driving position is easy, but rear visibility is hampered by small windows and large blind spots.

Interior Colors and Materials

Simulated leather upholstery is standard on the base-level XT5, with the only color option being Sahara Beige. Real leather with perforated inserts replaces the faux leather on the upper trims and the color palette is expanded to include Jet Black, Cirrus, and Kona Brown. Semi-aniline leather, in either Jet Black or Maple Sugar, with Chevron perforated inserts, is standard on the top-tier Platinum. Depending on your taste and budget, the interior trim can be real wood, aluminum, or carbon fiber, but we'd avoid the latter as the XT5 really has no sporting intentions whatsoever.

2019 XT5 Trunk and Cargo Space

Due to its slightly larger dimensions, the Caddy presents buyers with more cargo space than is the norm for a compact SUV. With the rear seats in place, 30 cubic feet of cargo room is available - more than enough for almost any application. If space for a dozen carry-on bags isn't enough, then you can fold the rear seats down flat, thanks to a power-lowering function, and more than double the space to 63 cubic feet.

Storage space inside the cabin is less impressive, with the door pockets and center armrest console disappointing. Two cupholders are available to the front and rear passengers each, and there is a small cubbyhole below the shifter. A standard-size glove compartment can be found in front of the passenger seat.

2019 XT5 Infotainment and Features

Features

The basic XT5 model comes equipped with the essentials, but lacks many of the advanced features that rivals offer, although this could be attributed to the SUV's slightly lower base cost. Standard features comprise dual-zone climate control, an eight-way power driver's seat, cruise control, keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate, a rearview mirror, rear seat reminder, rear parking assist, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column, and a driver information center. Features added as you move up the trim levels include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, front and rear parking assist, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic parking assist, tri-zone climate control, eight-way power heated front seats with lumbar support, heated rear seats, a power sunroof, a rear camera mirror, and a surround-view camera.

Infotainment

The infotainment suite in the XT5 includes all the basics you would expect from a modern vehicle, but the interface can be less than ideal to operate at times. The standard features are controlled through an eight-inch CUE touchscreen display and include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, AM/FM Radio, HD Radio, and a 4G LTE hotspot. All music and voice calling is channeled through the eight-speaker Bose audio system, which accommodates four USB ports and an auxiliary input jack. A wireless charging pad is added with the Luxury trim, while navigation is installed into the CUE system on the Premium Luxury. Also added on the penultimate trim is a 14-speaker Bose surround sound system.
