2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Review: Sometimes Lightning Strikes Twice

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV is the SUV evolution of the regular Bolt hatchback, one of the first mainstream electric vehicles to be sold in the USA. It was a natural step to upgrade it to a more practical high-rider since these are the most popular cars on the market behind pickups. The sacrifice in overall range is a small one, and in return, you get improved passenger space, as well as a smoother ride. The fact that it keeps the same 200-horsepower motor setup is a little disappointing, but that's still enough to keep up with rivals like the Hyundai Kona EV and Volkswagen ID.4. However, Chevy has been moving towards more advanced electric vehicles, including its beloved truck, and this is the last year for the Bolt EUV. Will it go out with a bang or a fizzle?

What's the Price of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV?

Thanks to a significant discount, the price of the new 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV drops to $27,800 for the base LT and $32,300 for the Premiere. Equipping the bold Redline Edition package will cost you $500. These are the MSRP figures for the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and do not include the $995 destination charge, or any licensing fees.

2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Handling and Driving Impressions

While it may be a bit larger and heavier, the 2023 Bolt EUV uses the same skateboard platform as its hatchback progenitor, which means that it exhibits excellent balance and stability. It doesn't have loads of power, but it doesn't need it either. There is enough instantaneous torque to give the illusion of sportiness when hopping between traffic lights, and the light and tight steering means that the crossover handles like a smaller car. The regenerative brakes are a highlight once you get used to the feel of them, and you'll likely not need to use the regular brakes very often. Ride comfort is decent, though not cushy, and some road noise will make its way into the cabin without a combustion engine to drown it out.

Verdict: Is The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV A Good SUV?

Since this will be one of the final reviews of the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, we do feel a little biased to give it a positive send-off, but that wouldn't be dishonest at all. The truth is that the electric crossover has proven itself over the years as a competent city cruiser with surprisingly good handling dynamics and a relatively competitive driving range. Chevy may be moving on to bigger and better things, but it has cemented itself as a serious player in the burgeoning EV environment with the eminently competent Bolt EUV. Other brands have since adopted the recipe and put their own spin on it, but Chevrolet can proudly claim to be a pioneer. If you have a growing family, the additional space provided by the crossover body makes the EUV a more attractive prospect over the regular hatchback, and the reduced sale price ensures that its final year on the market won't go without some significant attention.

What 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Model Should I Buy?

Thanks to a significant cost reduction for the new Chevrolet EUV crossover, we no longer feel that opting for a Premier model is excessively indulgent. For a little over $30k, you get all the essentials plus leather upholstery, a surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and the option to install a nifty sunroof. You also get all the equipment found in the Comfort and Convenience packages. Considering the model only costs a few grand more, we feel that its' a pretty good bargain.
