The imposing 3500HD has all the hallmarks of an HD truck, with an aggressive stance and a bluff front end. Regular Cab two-door and Double Cab or Crew Cab four-door bodies are available with either of two bed lengths. WT trucks get black front and rear bumpers and exterior trim, 18-inch steel wheels, and halogen headlights. LTs get 18-inch aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers, more chrome exterior trim, body-color door handles, deep-tinted glass, and a chrome horizontal bar on the black grille. The LTZ receives a chrome grille and even more chrome on the outside, in addition to LEDs for the head- and taillights, and LED foglights. The High Country is immediately recognizable thanks to its 20-inch alloy wheels and large tires, chrome side steps, a different grille with horizontal chrome bars, color-coded bumpers, and a polished exhaust outlet. DRW trims get different wheels - 17-inch steel on all trims except for the High Country, which gets 17-inch forged aluminum wheels. Power-retractable side steps are optional, as is a power sunroof on all Crew Cab models except for the WT.

The dimensions of the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD are substantial and put it in the upper class of the HD truck sector in terms of sheer size. The Regular Cab and Double Cab come only with the long bed and the Crew Cab gives you a choice between standard and long beds. Length ranges from 235.5 inches on models with a Regular Cab and long bed, up to 266 inches on the Crew Cab and long bed models. Similarly, the wheelbase can measure between 141.55 inches and 172 inches. In SRW guise, width varies between 81.75 and 81.85 inches with the mirrors folded, while DRW models stand 96.8 inches wide. Height varies between 80.67 and 80.94 inches, depending on the trim. In terms of curb weight, the lightest trim is the WT Regular Cab SRW 4x2 at 6,231 lbs, while the heavyweight in the lineup is the DRW Crew Cab configuration with the long bed, diesel engine, and 4x4 at 8,300 lbs. Ground clearance is nearly identical for all trims - between 11.14 and 11.18 inches.
