The 2020 Chevrolet Sonic Hatchback is available in two varying trims: the base LT and line-topping Premier. Both are equipped with an Ecotec 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission by default, servicing the front wheels of the entire lineup. Both are also outfitted with the Sonic RS appearance package, fitting them with black Chevrolet bowtie emblems, RS badging, front fog lamps, sporty rocker moldings, an integrated high-mounted rear spoiler, and - on the inside - a leather-wrapped three-spoke sports steering wheel and a piano black-accented instrument panel. At the base level, the LT features keyless entry, remote ignition, a tilt-only steering column, a four-way manually adjustable driver's seat, two-way manually adjustable front passenger seat, and single-zone manual climate control. Things get taken up a notch with the Premier, with heated, six-way power-adjustable front seats, an enhanced driver information display, push-button start, and a compass display.
Packages are rather limited for the budget-friendly Sonic, as is the case with most vehicles in the class. Both Sonic models have access to a $1,580 Performance Package, which equips the hatch with a performance exhaust and lowered sport-tuned suspension.
There is also a Driver Confidence package available for both models, which - for $495 - adds rear park assist, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.
Optional for the base LT Sonic only is a $650 Convenience Package which equips some of the features already standard on the Premier, namely heated six-way power-adjustable front seats, an enhanced driver information display, compass display, keyless open and start, and two spare keys.
