2020 Tahoe Interior

True to form, the enormous Tahoe is equally spacious inside. There may be even more cumbersome large SUVs out there, but the Chevy makes good use of its dimensions to offer a cabin with enough space for nine people. Unfortunately, the trunk isn't quite as generous and the overall choice of materials could be better. The cabin is well-appointed with comfortable seats and a host of features, both comfort and convenience. However, if you want the best the Tahoe has to offer, you'll need to be willing to shell out quite a bit for the top-tier Premier. The controls are all laid-out quite nicely and the infotainment is eminently user-friendly. Even the base model comes with smartphone integration, while a head-up display is available on the Premier.

Seating and Interior Space

The large SUV comes standard with seating appointments for up to nine passengers, but if you have any intention of taking luggage along, you may want to limit yourself to a maximum of five passengers. Those up front get the best seats in the house, with loads of head and legroom; however, they may want to pull their seats forward a bit if there are particularly tall adults seated in the second row. Headroom in the third row can easily accommodate an average adult, but the legroom seems fit for smaller children only. The seats are comfortable all-round, especially on the plusher upper trims. The driver's seat comes standard with ten-way power-adjustability, paired with a six-way power passenger seat. The top-tier Premier offers heating and ventilation for the front seats, and heating for the second-row seats. Visibility is about what you'd expect from such a large vehicle - good forward and poor rearward. Getting in and out isn't overly complicated, but reaching the third-row seats can be tricky.

Interior Colors and Materials

While spacious and well-built, the interior of the Tahoe is a bit more worker-day than some buyers might like. This is largely due to the choice of materials. The base-model LS comes upholstered in premium cloth, with color choices including Jet Black or Dune/Cocoa. The LT steps things up a little by swapping the cloth out for leather; it also adds Dark Ash/Jet Black to the color palette. Topping the range is the Premier, upholstered in perforated leather available in the base colors, or optionally, Mahogany with a choice of either Cocoa or Jet Black Accents. Unfortunately, every model features quite a bit of hard plastics around the cabin, although the controls and high-traffic areas are covered up with soft-touch surfaces.

2020 Tahoe Trunk and Cargo Space

Despite its impressive size, the Tahoe is deceptively small on the inside. The trunk is particularly unimpressive, with only 15.3 cubic feet of space available behind the third-row seats. This is quite a bit less than the larger Ford Expedition's 20.9 cubic feet, and even the smaller Chevrolet Traverse's 23 cubic feet. Quite a bit more room is freed up when you fold down the rear-most seats, with a total of 51.7 cubic feet available. While the standard trunk space is only enough for light errand-running around town, the expanded area should accommodate luggage for up to five passengers. For moving larger items, the second-row seats can be folded down, too, to provide a total of 94.7 cubic feet. Despite all this room, the high floor height makes loading heavier cargo quite difficult.

Designed to carry people more than cargo, the Tahoe has plenty of small-item storage spread throughout the cabin. There are cupholders for each row of seats, and the four door pockets are each large enough to stow water bottles. There is a standard glove compartment and the center armrest cubby is quite spacious. There are also storage trays set below the center console.

2020 Tahoe Infotainment and Features

Features

The base Tahoe enters the fray with a respectable number of features. The cabin is kept comfortable by the cloth upholstery and tri-zone climate control, while remote keyless entry and remote engine start add an extra level of convenience. There is a 4.2-inch driver information display between the gauges and five power outlets spread around the cabin: four 12-volt and one 110-volt. The driver's seat offers ten directions of power-adjustability, while the passenger seat offers six. The basic safety features comprise a rearview camera, rear sonar, and a teen driver system. The LT upgrades the upholstery to leather and adds an auto-dimming rearview mirror and power liftgate. Additional safety features include forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and a safety alert seat. The top-tier Premier gets perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel with power tilt-and-telescoping. Rounding out the safety suit is front sonar, lane change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. A head-up display and eight-inch driver information display come on the Premier when you equip the 6.2-liter V8.

Infotainment

The infotainment suite on the Chevy is accessed via an eight-inch touchscreen. From this user-friendly interface, you can control the Bluetooth functions, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The base-model LS comes with HD Radio and SiriusXM, but only a six-speaker sound system to playback the audio. Five USB ports and an auxiliary audio jack are also provided. The LT upgrades to a nine-speaker Bose premium audio system, while the Premier gets a ten-speaker Bose Surround Sound system. The top trim also adds navigation with SiriusXM Traffic, as well as a wireless charging pad. Buyers can also equip a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system with Blu-Ray/DVD playback as a standalone option.
