The USA is in love with crossovers, but when it comes to family haulers, a minivan can't be beaten. Chrysler manufactures one of the best around in the form of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. This sleekly styled family mover has proven itself to highly capable since the first generation was introduced for the 2017 model year, but for 2020, Chrysler's preeminent people mover is getting even better thanks to the addition of an AWD Launch Edition. Under the hood, you'll find a tried and trusted 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 gas engine sending 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque to the front or all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission, but the Pacifica's secret weapon is an available hybrid version with a combined 260 hp, twin-electric motors, and 82 MPGe. The Pacifica boasts a premium look, loads of features, and an abundance of safety options, but with a cramped third row of seating compared to the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, it's not all positive. Still, few rival vehicles have what it takes to come out on top against the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica.
Chrysler has kept the changes relatively minimal for the 2020 Pacifica. They've added the S package, which adds special interior touches such as black nose badging, custom Black Noise wheels, body-colored door handles, and more. A later introduction for the 2020 model year is the AWD Launch Edition, the first AWD minivan offered by the brand since 2004. The system automatically directs torque to the wheels that need it and was originally slated for a 2021 model year arrival before Chrysler decided to launch it early. Available on the Touring L, the AWD Launch Edition also has unique badging, new 18-inch wheels, and an all-black S Appearance interior, guaranteed to make any review of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica a little more interesting compared to more humdrum peers.

Chrysler plays it safe with the Pacifica; after all, reliability means much more than performance in this corner of the market. Under the hood of the 2020 Pacifica, you'll find a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated gasoline V6 motor hooked up to a 9-speed automatic transmission that channels power to a front-wheel drive system by default, although late in the year an all-wheel drive version was launched. Power outputs are rated at 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, enabling the Pacifica to complete the 0-60 mph sprint in the low seven-second range. The 2020 Pacifica minivan has a towing capacity of 3,600 pounds. For the more eco-conscious, Chrysler also offers a hybrid version that shares the 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine, but runs on the Atkinson cycle and runs two electric motors mated to a 16kWh lithium-ion battery for a total power output of 260 hp. Power is sent to the front wheels via an eFlite electrically continuously variable transmission.
The Chrysler Pacifica remains one of the best minivans on the market today and does such a good job of transporting people and carrying stuff that we would even recommend it to those looking for a traditional SUV (If you're not planning on going off-road, then why not?). Generations of Americans have spent considerable periods cocooned inside the cabins of Chrysler minivans, and the good news is that the Pacifica makes the experience better than ever before. It delivers a refined and relaxed driving experience, enough power to get you going, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, while the 2020 Pacifica hybrid will save on fuel at the expense of a higher initial outlay. The exterior styling is attractive, more so than the now-dated Sienna, and with well over 200 seating configurations and a long options list, you can truly make this car your own. High safety ratings and good tech also mean that the Pacifica is mildly future-proof. It's the best you can do in this segment of the market. The biggest downside is that in its hybrid and well-specced AWD forms, the price of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica minivan is more expensive than many peers.
With so many options on the table, finding the perfect Pacifica minivan for your specific needs won't be all that difficult. Small businesses and uber drivers will appreciate the budget-friendly base model, which is ideal for the daily runaround, but most will want something more substantial. For those, we recommend looking at the 35th Anniversary Touring L, which features an all-black interior with perforated leather seats and Cranberry Wine stitching, an overhead DVD player, and most importantly, seating for eight. For those that like the idea of driving an AWD minivan, your only choice will be the AWD Launch Edition. We'd recommend getting the $995 Advanced SafetyTec package for added safety, which includes adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera system.
