While the NHTSA and IIHS have not performed proper crash tests on the E-Transit, it does use the same basic underpinnings as its gas- and diesel-powered variants. A 2023 model gas-powered Transit Cargo Van achieved three stars for the front crash test from the NHTSA, not exactly a sterling performance.
However, it is worth mentioning that the Ford E-Transit Cargo Van received a gold award from the European NCAP safety association for its driver-assistance features. The same safety standards do not necessarily apply to US-spec models, though.
NHTSA safety ratings are not available at this time.
With only two passengers to worry about, the E-Transit doesn't really need more than four airbags. These include driver and passenger front airbags, and side curtain airbags. It also comes equipped with safety features like stability and traction control, side-wind stabilization, hill-start assist, and crash-unlocking doors. In terms of driver-assistance tech, the van gets forward collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a rearview camera. Options include blind-spot assist, reverse brake assist, enhanced active park assist, a digital rearview camera, and a surround-view camera.

Independent organizations like J.D. Power have yet to award the Ford E-Transit Cargo Van with consumer-approved reliability ratings, but its gas-powered cousin has long been one of America's most beloved and dependable work vans. That said, the 2022 E-Transit was already recalled seven times for issues related to the rearview camera, instrument panel illumination, inoperative HVAC controls, and a seat belt locking retractor malfunction.
Alongside the regular Ford warranty plans, the electric E-Transit Cargo Van is also covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the electrified components.
Though it has no official safety rating, the Ford E-Transit shares the same platform as its gas-powered variant, which has average safety scores. It also comes with what many consider to be essential driver-assistance features.
There are a total of four airbags around the passenger area of the cargo van.
