There's a good reason why the Ford Explorer is the best-selling SUV in American history: it does everything rather well. The base model's exterior design is handsome, despite not being very exciting, and features auto high-beam headlights and LED taillamps. Under the hood, the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-pot engine sends a healthy 300 hp to the rear, or all four wheels via a smooth ten-speed automatic transmission. Inside, the Explorer won't blow you away with a stylish design and premium materials, but it offers tons of space. Interior features include an eight-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and driver aids such as rear cross-traffic assist and blind-spot alert.
