Everything on the F-450 appears big and heavy - from the giant grille with its enlarged version of the Ford badge to the massive side mirrors, it's a truck that means business. The XL is positioned as a basic work truck and, as such, it has a black grille, black tow hooks, and black-painted steel bumpers. Higher up in the range, you get big lashings of chrome trim, LED box lighting, and a remote tailgate release. From the Platinum model up, LED fog lamps and taillamps are standard. The range-topper also comes with a twin-panel moonroof for the Crew Cab. As the only Ford Super Duty truck to have a standard dual-rear-wheel axle, the wheels are also unique to the F-450 with polished forged-aluminum wheels measuring 19.5 inches being fitted.

With its dual rear-wheel (DRW) axle, the F-450 is significantly wider than other Super Duty trucks. Excluding the mirrors, the F-450 is 96 inches wide, a full 16 inches wider than single-rear-wheel (SRW) models. With the mirrors fully extended, the width increases to 110 inches. The Regular Cab is 81.7 inches in height, just 0.2 inches taller than the Crew Cab. Length varies from 231.8 inches for the Regular Cab to 266.2 inches for the Crew Cab. The wheelbase is 141.6 inches long for the Regular Cab, and up to 176 inches for the Crew Cab. Curb weight ranges between 7,730 pounds for the 4x2 Regular Cab and 8,600 lbs for the 4x4 Crew Cab.

For off-road driving, the F-450's ground clearance is 8.6 inches. The approach/departure/break-over angles are 19.5/21.5/25.3 degrees for the Regular Cab.

Both the Regular Cab and the Crew Cab have an eight-foot box. The length at the floor is 98.1 inches and the maximum width at the floor is 66.9 inches, while the width between the wheelhouse is 50.5 inches.
