2023 Transit Connect Cargo Van Interior

Continuing the theme of a car-like driving experience, the interior of the 2023 Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van resembles that of many other Ford vehicles and feels more like your everyday sedan or hatchback. The center console and dashboard layout is neat and houses all the infotainment and climate controls, and there's an overall feeling of youthfulness to this cabin that is often lacking in serious cargo vans. The XLT offers some handy features over the base model, but both feature cheaper materials and lots of hard plastics, which is expected at this price point and in a class of vehicle meant to be worked hard.

Seating and Interior Space

While the Passenger Wagon can seat up to seven, the 2023 Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van will only seat two. This means there's ample interior space for all types of bodies and miles of headroom. Legroom is a decent 41.5 inches, and shoulder room is a generous 57.6 inches. There's a total of 54.2 inches of hip room and a mammoth 46.9 inches of headroom.

While seating is limited, the space inside is more than enough for stacks of cargo.

Interior Colors and Materials

Cargo vans should be able to withstand years of abuse, so we'll excuse Ford's use of hard plastics and other cheap materials. The cabin of the Connect Cargo looks modern, and the build quality is solid enough. Interior colors on the Transit Connect Cargo Van are very limited, however; the two front seats are covered in Ebony vinyl with Dark Palazzo Gray inserts on the XL, with cloth optional on the XL and standard on the XLT - in Ebony only. The faux brushed-alloy effect on some of the trim adds to the modern feel of the cabin, but truthfully, this space is simply awash with hard plastics.

2023 Transit Connect Cargo Van Trunk and Cargo Space

The entire point of this vehicle is to transport stuff, so cargo space is all-important. The good news is that the 2023 Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van offers competitive amounts of cargo space. The SWB model provides 104.8 cubic feet behind the front seats and folding down the passenger seat expands this figure to 123.2 cubes. The cargo floor length is 71.9 inches, scaling down to 61.3 inches at the beltline. The maximum cargo height is up to 49.8 inches, with 48.7 inches of room between the wheel housings. The rear door opening is 47.3 inches tall and 49.2 inches wide. The load floor's height is 23 inches. The LWB model offers 127.4 cubic feet of space behind the first row (145.8 cubes with the passenger seat folded) and has an 87.6-inch long floor, sizing down to 77 inches at the beltline.

2023 Transit Connect Cargo Van Infotainment and Features

Features

Ford has attempted to make the 2023 Transit Connect Cargo Van feel as car-like as possible, and it gets it right to a certain extent. The base XL model comes fitted with basics such as a six-way manually adjustable driver's seat (the XLT adds four-way lumbar support) and a four-way passenger seat covered in vinyl. It has 180-degree swing-out cargo doors, manual climate control, and more advanced features such as keyless entry and rain-sensing wipers. The XL gets standard driver-assistance features such as pedestrian detection and a collision warning system. The XLT adds more advanced features such as power-adjustable, power-folding, and heated side mirrors, and driver-assistance features such as cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and cruise control.

Infotainment

The Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van was never designed to entertain the driver and passenger, so the infotainment systems on offer are rather rudimentary. The base model gets a 4.2-inch LCD multi-function display with steering-wheel controls and a four-speaker sound system. This system features Bluetooth streaming, a single USB port, and AM/FM radio. The XLT adds Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, SiriusXM satellite radio, two USB charging ports, and wireless charging. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included.
