2023 Savana Passenger Van Safety

The safety of the GMC Savana Passenger Van has not been determined, as these types of commercial vehicles don't undergo crash tests. Therefore, no official safety ratings are available. GMC has made changes over the years to keep up with the minimum safety legislation, but hailing from 1996 and being devoid of the vast majority of modern safety and driver-assistance features, it's unlikely that the Savana will do well in a modern crash test. The only test that's been conducted on it by the NHTSA is the rollover test, where all models subjected to it scored three out of five stars - an expected result for a top-heavy van.

2023 Savana Passenger Van Key Safety Features

The Savana's general safety standards are not high and very few of the safety features normally found in modern cars are fitted. It has the obligatory backup camera, ABS, stability control, and tire-pressure monitoring, but only two airbags are fitted and, beyond that, very few items feature as standard on the base car, these essentially being an auto-dimming rearview mirror and hill-start assist. The LT gets standard forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors are optionally available, but not standard on either trim.

2023 Savana Passenger Van Reliability

JD Power has not evaluated the GMC Savana Passenger Van's reliability, but given how simple the design is and how long it's been in production, reliability should be very good, as attested to by owners. This is borne out by the fact that there were no recalls on the 2022 model, and, at the time of writing, the 2023 model was still recall-free as well. The last time the Savana Passenger Van was recalled was in 2021 for a battery terminal that may short, and for possible tire failure.

The GMC Savana Passenger Van's warranty cover is nothing to write home about, and the three-year/36,000-mile basic and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranties are average at best. At least complimentary servicing for a period of one year is included.
