Unfortunately, the heavy-duty version of the Sierra pickup does not get crash tested by any official organization. The closest alternative is the 1500, which receives a score of Good from the IIHS in most categories. However, this heavy vehicle is designed to take some serious punishment and won't be brought down easily unless you regularly play chicken with semis. Don't.

There has also not been an excessive number of recalls issued for the truck in the past few years. There were three in 2021 for incorrect seat belt bolts, an improperly secured front seat belt bracket, and a potential short circuit in the brake-pressure modulator value.
