2023 Honda Civic Type R Safety and Reliability

Honda Civic Type R Reliability Rating

2023 Civic Type R Safety

Cars that are this much fun to drive should also be safe enough to hoon in, and while the Type R doesn't have a specific rating from either authority, the IIHS did rate the regular Civic on which it's based high enough to award it a Top Safety Pick+ award for 2022. With only a partial review for the Type R from the NHTSA (five stars in rollover tests), the base hatchback's five-star overall rating is a good indication of how safe the hot hatch is.

2023 Civic Type R Key Safety Features

Honda is generous with the safety features on the Type R, and includes ten airbags as standard, including front occupant knee airbags and side curtains. The expected slew of abbreviation-named safety systems is in place (ABS, EBD, TPMS, VSA). There are also LATCH anchors and tethers for child car seats in the back.

The driver assistance suite is comprehensive and includes collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping and lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and blind spot information with cross traffic monitoring. There is also a driver attention monitor as standard and a multi-angle rearview camera with dynamic guidelines.

2023 Civic Type R Reliability

The last recall for the Type R was in 2021 for the 2020 model (applicable to the previous-generation model), where some vehicles were recalled for a fuel pump that may fail. The Civic lineup has been free from recalls in the years that followed. While J.D. Power hasn't yet released a rating for the Honda Civic Type R's reliability, we're pretty certain the high scores from the outgoing generation will carry over, if not improve.

Warranty cover for the 2023 Honda Civic Type R spans three years or 36,000 miles, includes powertrain coverage for five years or 60,000 miles, but doesn't come with any scheduled maintenance.
