The Plug-in version of the SE gets most of the same features as the standard Hybrid, save for the blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and larger driver-information display. But it also gets a much larger 8.9 kWh battery. Charging the battery from a Level 2 outlet takes a little over two hours, and the hatchback can travel up to 29 miles without dipping into the gas reserves. So, while the Plug-in may get slightly worse combined fuel consumption when looking at gasoline, it can be more affordable over shorter drives thanks to the ability to fully charge the battery between trips. Naturally, the regenerative brakes assist to keep fuel costs down, too.
