2021 Jaguar F-Type Convertible Review: Brit Got Back

Despite having been around since 2013, Jag's F-Type Convertible remains one of the best-looking 2-door convertibles around, albeit an underrated one. There have been steady updates over the years, but the 2021 Jaguar F-Type Convertible gets a fresh face and some notable tech upgrades inside the cabin in the new model year. The engine options remain the same and include the base 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and the more powerful supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 380 horsepower and 339 lb-ft. The 2021 F-Type Convertible goes up against competitors such as the excellent Porsche 718 Spyder and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible, which both outshine the Brit in their own way.

Engine and Transmission

There are two engines on offer for 2021, starting with the base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot. This engine produces 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque which it sends to the rear-wheel drivetrain via an 8-speed automatic transmission. In this configuration, the F-Type will hit the 60 mph mark in 5.4 seconds. The more powerful supercharged 3.0-liter V6 gas engine punches out 380 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque and allows the F-Type R-Dynamic to sprint to 60 mph in only 4.8 seconds. While the base 2.0-liter car will feel quick enough to most drivers, the fact that you can get a 6.2-liter V8 Corvette Stingray Convertible with 490 hp for the same money is a rather sad joke.

Verdict: Is the 2021 Jaguar F-Type Convertible A Good car?

Jaguar has done an excellent job of keeping pace with the rest of the field. The first-gen F-Type Convertible has been around for eight years, and thanks to this year's update, looks better than ever. And let's be honest, the F-Type's most significant selling point is its stunning looks. The 2021 car also gets a new digital instrument cluster and smartphone integration, which goes a long way to future-proofing this model. Under the hood, the Jag offers more than enough power, and the aural serenade provided by that supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine is worth the larger fuel bill, but at the price, the Chevy Corvette offers tons more power and performance. None of the safety rating institutes in the USA have put the 2021 Jaguar F-Type Convertible to review, but a few recalls for the F-Type line may speak to its questionable reliability. The F-Type is a beautiful sports car and is perfect for those who want to look good, but for a true performance vehicle, the Porsche 718 Boxster and Chevy Corvette are better buys.

What Jaguar F-Type Convertible Model Should I Buy?

We'd stick with the base 2.0-liter engine, as the V6 option puts the price way above the more athletic Chevrolet Corvette and in line with the far superior Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0 Roadster. We'd get one in Caldera Red and add dual-zone climate control for $600 and Park Assist for $510. With this conservative build, the total price of the 2021 Jaguar F-Type Convertible comes to $66,960, including a destination fee of $1,150.
