2023 Jaguar I-Pace Review: Svelte Electric Cat

There are more premium electric vehicles than ever before, so the Jaguar I-Pace can't rely on novelty alone to stand out. Luckily, it also has some great looks to lean on, along with a potent electric powertrain that makes 394 horsepower and 512 lb-ft of torque. As you might expect from a Jag, it's quite fun to drive, too. It contends with other sporty electric SUVs like the Tesla Model X and the BMW iX, although both are significantly more expensive. Bolstered by a practical and stylish interior, the 2023 I-Pace is a hard one to beat, even for more established gas-powered alternatives. Of course, as an EV, it has a long list of high-tech features, too, and it is also the first Jaguar to boast Amazon Alexa. But, with competition heating up, especially in the USA, will the I-Pace continue to impress buyers or will they be drawn to newer and shinier options?

What's the Price of the 2023 Jaguar I-Pace?

The MSRP of the new Jaguar I-Pace is $73,300. This isn't cheap, but it's only available in one trim which is essentially one of the highest trim levels for the brand - the HSE. This does not include the obligatory $1,175 destination charge or any other dealer markups. Overall, it won't cost you as much as some other premium EVs.

2023 Jaguar I-Pace Handling and Driving Impressions

You wouldn't be mistaken for accusing the 2023 Jaguar I-Pace of having a split personality. On the one hand, it is an ultra-luxurious cruiser that delivers an excellent ride and all the comfort features you could possibly want, but on the other, it has loads of performance potential. It excels at both, thanks to having loads of torque on tap and refined handling dynamics. You almost forget how heavy this electric car is when tossing it into corners, and the feedback from the wheels is anything but lifeless. There is definitely some understeer if you push the SUV too hard, though. Meanwhile, the active air suspension does an excellent job of soaking up bumps in the road, ensuring a comfortable and quiet cruising experience. It really can be the best of both worlds, and it all comes down to how you drive it.

Verdict: Is The 2023 Jaguar I-Pace A Good SUV?

If there is one big advantage that established automakers have over EV startups, it's that they already know how to build good cars. The 2023 Jaguar I-Pace is proof that old dogs know how to play with a new toy. Not only does it look gorgeous, but it has more than enough power to live up to the Jag reputation, with handling to match. And with an SUV body style, it is perfectly positioned to make a splash in the US market, perfectly blending style, performance, and practicality, and it still comes in a good deal cheaper than the Tesla Model X. It has mediocre range, though, but quick charge times that keep it on par with most rivals, though Tesla still has a bit of an edge in both areas. In review, the Jaguar I-Pace is indeed a good SUV, and those that can afford one should definitely be considering it.

What 2023 Jaguar I-Pace Model Should I Buy?

The only model in the new Jaguar I-Pace SUV range is the HSE, which is far from a base model. It has a long list of standard features, and while it may not be as spacious as a Model X, it is a lot cheaper and boasts far superior build quality. The overall value proposition is amazing, but the price of ownership is still far from low.
